FAQ

Franchisee Qualifications

Do I need to be a physician to own a ConciER facility?

ConciER strongly believes in the principle of physician ownership. We look for physicians who want to own and operate their own free-standing ER.

In some states, non-physicians may be permitted to take an ownership interest. However, in these cases, there must be significant physician ownership.

For more information, please see our Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD).

Do I need to be board-certified in emergency medicine to own a ConciER facility?

ConciER requires that the individual who serves as the facility's Medical Director must either be board-certified in emergency medicine or demonstrate equivalent experience which qualifies the individual for this role.

How do I get started?

Contact us via the links at the bottom of the page and start a conversation with us. We're happy to answer and all of your questions. You can also request a copy of our Franchise Disclosure Document, which provides details of many aspects of the business.

The ConciER Franchise System

What will I receive as part of the ConciER franchise system?

ConciER provides many medical support services, so you can spend more of your time focusing on your patients. We serve, in part, as a Medical Services Organization (MSO). The services we provide include:

Billing:  Medical coding and billing services.
Staffing:  Tools to help you recruit and select nurses and technicians.
Administration:  An onsite office manager trained by ConciER.
Marketing:  Strategy, materials, and execution.
Vendors:  Negotiated rates on inventory and supplies.

What training will I receive?

You have trained many years to become a physician qualified to practice emergency medicine. ConciER's training program will help you develop your skills as a physician leader and as a business owner, providing you with much of the knowledge you'll need to successfully run your business.

What kind of pre-opening support is provided?

Our ConciER team has helped experienced emergency medicine physicians, just like you, build and license their own free-standing emergency departments. When you join the ConciER FSED system, you will receive pre-opening support in many areas:

Location:  We will assist you in selecting an appropriate site for your free-standing emergency department.
Licensing:  We will help guide you through the application process for your state FSED license.
Architecture:  We provide base architectural designs which you can customize to meet your physical site and community zoning requirements.
Transfer Agreements: ConciER has successfully negotiated patient transfer agreements with hospitals, and we will assist you with this critical step.

How much income can I make from a ConciER ER?

As a physician owner, you will be able to control your own success. Some physicians have chosen to join the ConciER system because they want the ability to set their own work schedules and spend less time away from family and loved ones. It's hard to put a dollar value on that benefit.

As the owner of a ConciER facility, you will have many advantages to help you enter private practice for yourself. We project that free-standing emergency departments will become a key component in the delivery of community-based emergency medicine, and will ease overcrowding in hospital emergency departments. The ConciER franchise system allows you to go into business for yourself, but you will not be by yourself. Your earnings will depend on the choices you make. They will also depend on local conditions, such as costs and competition. You will also need to position yourself successfully within your community.

We encourage you to speak with our franchisees about their experiences with the ConciER system. Ask them about their satisfaction with the ConciER brand, so that you can evaluate the business' potential. Then, you will be able to decide what you will need to do to be successful.

We encourage you to fill out our online information form. Additional information about earnings is provided in the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD).

Locations and the ER Facility

Can I open a ConciER facility in my state?

ConciER is currently selling franchises in the state of Texas. However, many other states will issue licenses to free-standing emergency departments. Requirements and licensing procedures vary from state to state. Please contact us to see if you will be able to open a ConciER facility in your state.

Is it better to build a new building or lease/buy an existing facility?

If you are opening a new facility, we recommend that you build a new building. Our preferred developer can assist you in finding an appropriate site, and our architects can design your facility to meet state licensing and zoning requirements.

If you currently own an FSED, we would be happy to help you convert it to a ConciER facility.

If you own an urgent care center, it may be possible to upgrade your facility to convert it to a ConciER FSED. We can help you evaluate your current facility to discover whether it can be upgraded. Please contact us for more information.

Is financing or real estate development assistance available?

Currently, ConciER does not offer financing or real estate development assistance. However, ConciER has a preferred real estate developer who understands the financial challenges you will face to Own Your Own ER™ . They can help you locate financing you will need to construct your own facility. More information is located in the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD). Please contact us to request a copy.

The ConciER Franchise Agreement

What is the initial franchise fee?

The initial franchise fee is $60,000 per facility.

How much is the initial investment?

Your total initial investment will depend on many different factors, including your location and the choices you make for your facility. More information, including a list of initial expenses and an estimated range for each, is listed in the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD). Please contact us to request a copy of the FDD.

What is the term of the franchise agreement?

The initial term is a period of fifteen years. After that period, there are two additional five year renewal options.

Are there ongoing fees paid to ConciER?

As part of the ConciER system, your facility will pay an ongoing royalty. Currently the royalty has been set as 4% of net collected revenues. Additionally, you will be required to purchase some core services (such as medical coding and billing) through ConciER MSO, a wholly owned subsidiary of ConciER FSED Franchising, LLC. We encourage you to review the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) for more information about ongoing fees.

Are there any advertising fees?

ConciER knows that to build a successful brand within communities, each facility will need to invest in local advertising and marketing. ConciER provides assistance with local campaigns through ConciER MSO.

Currently, ConciER does not charge an advertising fee to support regional or national advertising campaigns. We may do so in the future, but we will provide franchisees with six months notice before instituting the fee. For more information on the advertising fund, please contact us for a copy of the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD).

Is there a technology fee?

Technology has become an essential part of healthcare systems. ConciER has established a technology fund for improvements and integration of technological innovations for the entire system of franchised businesses. As a franchisee, you will be required to contribute a small percentage of your facility's net collected revenue to support these initiatives. Currently, franchisees are required to contribute 0.25% of net collected revenue. This amount may increase, with timely notice, to an amount of up to 1%.

Other Questions

I have questions that are not on this list. How do I contact you?

You can contact us by phone, by email, or by filling out our online form - just take a look at the "Contact Us" section at the bottom of the page. We look forward to hearing from you!

I am a medical student or an emergency medicine resident. How can I prepare now to someday own my own ER?

You'll need a few years of experience working in ERs before you're ready to own your own facility, but while you're gaining that experience, you can learn more than how to practice medicine. Think of yourself not just as a doctor, but as a future business owner. Learn about how an ER operates - not only what you do as a physician, but what the people around you do and how it all fits together. Attend conferences and networking events to meet other physicians who are FSED owners, and ask them about their experiences. Learn what you can about management and leadership. The more you learn, the more prepared you'll be when you step into the role of business owner.
